Pearlyn's Birthday Surprise!

Title: Pearlyn's Birthday Surprise!

The day started for me at 3pm sharp when i started counting down at 2.59pm. I was waiting for the last few sentences to be finished before i rushed to do something important. Exactly, the lecture stopped at 3pm, like always. I met Kok Ho and Sara shortly then went around the school with Wen Jie to do some 'debt' collection. Maureen was with Pearlyn and had been feeding information where Pearlyn was, good job Maureen.

Wen Jie and i went ahead and bought the cake from Holland V. Well, we had wanted to buy an ice-cream cake but the Swensen outlet there was not opened. So we opted to buy a cake that we thought the birthday girl would like. In the end, we bought a flower, balloon and a Boston Chocolate cake.

Quickly, we went back to school via bus. Along the way, i checked with Maureen's location as she was with the birthday girl so that we could avoid her. Then we met Melise to proceed to the room for the surprise. We met Pak Wing and Wen Si and Alisa also came from the meeting to help.

Wen Si and Alisa were crucial in the surprise. They were tasked to do a very, very important job - switch off the light. Once the door was opened, we started singing the birthday song. Wen Jie went in first with the cake, then Melise and me with the flowers. So i went to Pearlyn and presented her with the flowers. She could not stop laughing and i had to grab her hand and push it to her.

Apparently, still in a state of shock, Pearlyn could not stop covering her mouth and was expressing herself as though she had some asthma (usual case for her). After all the photo-takings, Maureen played her powerpoint slides made specially for Pearlyn. I also showed my video to them. Not even Maureen knew about it. I felt that the video could be made longer but i could not do it due to time constraint and i was making a video the first time in my life.

So Maureen and i had a hard and long time trying to get the audio on for the video. It was like so long till JiaFeng and Gerry even came to offer some help. After that, i kept saying to Maureen, "回家煮饭". So funny.

Went to Rocky's for pizza meal and then Daily Scoop for ice-cream. Pearlyn could not stop her asthma move the whole evening. She was funny.

the rain in my heart has begun heavily

Title: "the rain in my heart has begun heavily"

"the rain in my heart has begun heavily," the line of the song was sung into my ears as i walked along the path. The path to home. The grey sky offered drops of its tear on me. The tears slipped down strands of my hair. It was sometime back that i walked in the rain. The walk made me feel that i was in some shoots. Feeling a little free with my hands, i swiftly captured evidence of the crying scene. But when the walk continued, my emotion went one rung up. My emotion was well kept within myself. Somehow, i feel i could lose something forever. Something i treasure the most.

"everyone sits in a round table."

Title: "everyone sits in a round table."

At the end of the day, "everyone sits in a round table" and everyone has equal right and share of work. That's what one thought.

So how does leadership come into play? It does play a part. A leader is a servant to everyone. I once lamented and still lamenting over the fact that middle-level leader suffers the most from an organisation. He/she is the connector between the people and the ultimate boss of the organisation. He/she shall be the most politically correct person in the hierarchy. As taught since young, "见人, 说人话. 见鬼, 说鬼话." Well, it does hold true till today. When the middle-level leader faces his superior, he can at most resist an unfavourable decision for some days and soon conform to the ultimate order. Then, when he/she faces his/her team-mates, he/she might have a change in tone and the communicating method may even differ. But for some exceptional cases, some may remain straightforward to anyone and does not mind his/her way of communicating. This is the best but the one who does so may see himself in danger zones soon. This is dynamics. Humans are good at it, don't they?

The leader may already be drained out emotionally due to this. In the process of doing a work, he/she may need to do extra work but sometimes he/she is not greatly recognised of his/her effort. The stumbling block for such recognition denial is his/her position in the organisation is not correct. Leader is hard to be and needs to please every single soul.

A leader is as good as a servant. Only a good servant can understand the needs of its owners truly and fulfil them. "Everyone sits in a round table?" Maybe not, after all.

"Moral Issue" for everyone!

Title: "Moral Issue" for everyone!

"I believe this is a moral issue and we should seize it," by Al Gore. A line that was engraved into my mind after i saw the documentary on climate change. I would say it was first time in my entire life, i saw the seriousness of the issue.

The way i saw a person trying to educate the public with the kind of neatly adjusted tone and volume when he wanted to emphasize on some facts. This was the translation of what a person who is clear of his goals and direction does.

The presentation that i saw and i had one word for it - conviction. I was convinced by what i saw and i think raising awareness and responding to the environmental issue is important.

If only i could go tour the world and speak of my belief one day. I want to make an impact... I am inspired...

the celebrated success

Title: the celebrated success

Sat/Jan 5

The day that the boy by the name - Aik Nen - would never have thought it churned out to be that, including the one with the name of Kwan Chet. Although Jan 5 was a day late for celebration, it was sure fun-packed. The day sure started abit rough between Chet and Aik Nen. According to Aik Nen's newly bought 唐立淇's book on horoscope, Chet was to have 'clashes' with him. Apparently, it was quite true. The 2 fought verbally quite often and it was like when Chet wanted to make a comment and he would go, "够了(enough)" and ignore him.

Soon, it was night when the real surprise was on its way. Chet excused himself from Pearlyn, Amy and Aik Nen at Starbucks. Meanwhile, Pearlyn and Amy were asked to entertain Aik Nen by talking craps via sms from Chet (not sure what craps also). So Chet went to meet Melise, Maureen, Derek and Grace. Quickly, the plan was drawn within minutes.

The Master Plan:
A. Buy the present
B. Get the cake
C. Book a place at PastaMania

Then recently confirmed her status as the "Director" Melise put her skills to good use. She and Derek with the help of the others came up with the plot to present the cake and presents. After buying present, Chet was tasked to queue for a place in restaurant. Derek, Maureen and Grace went to buy cake. Director Melise went to lead Aik Nen and the rest to the restaurant.

Soon after, all was seated and food was ordered. Derek excused himself. To make it naturally for Chet and Maureen to leave the scene (actually not very natural), Director Melise with some quick wits, told Maureen to leave. As usual, the blur Mautise went off in 'blur' mode. Melise immediately asked Chet to chase after her. (well, as can be read, the move by Director Melise generated more rumours for Mautise and Chet).

To add fun to the celebration, relighting candles were used. When Chet, Mautise and Derek were done with the cake, they were on the way back to the restaurant. Derek started the birthday singing with cake on his hands, within steps near Aik Nen.

The cake was brought before the birthday boy. He made his wishes and blew. At first sight, Chet thought the relighting candles failed as they did not relight. But he was proven wrong. Aik Nen blew, blew and blew.... .....

Then he was presented with a card from all of us. He followed Director Melise's instruction closely - open the card and rub it inside to make the words in the card visible. oh my. But due to common logic exercised, there was no word appearing.

All the little wishes from everyone filled the card soon. It was a success as it caught Aik Nen and surprisingly Pearlyn off-guard. The most important thing was that everyone enjoyed the night to the fullest ( a pat for all, great job).

Count-down

Title: Count-down

31-1Jan

Count-down day was great. My day was filled with my good friends - old and new. Met Han Xiang, Guan Zhu, Michelle and Cynthia in the afternoon. We went to Settlers to play games. We enjoyed playing Cluedo. During the first few rounds, i was great in guessing but subsequently i i turned a little dull. Oh my. My memory got lousier each round. Mmmm. give credits to .... ME! haha. Oh my. It was such a long time we met. So long that i have not heard Michelle calling me 阿公, haha. You all are important to me. I have not gone with them to karaoke for such a long time. I just wonder when that time would ever come.

Then we went to Newton for dinner where we had fried oysters, stingrays, crayfish (my favourite), kang-kong, la-la. Half-way through the dinner, i received a sms to get a rose, from "ahem". haha. Wei Ting came meeting us. It was surprising she could make it for the countdown. A pity i did not talk to her for long and i had to "disappear".

After dinner, I had to leave for Dhoby Ghaut as i was meeting another group of high friends. I met them at the MRT platform. I almost stepped into the wrong MRT. There one-by-one, all appeared. Gerry aka Disgrace (just joking), Melise, Amy, Maureen, Pearlyn, Aik Nen and Grace. We all then went to somewhere near Merlion Park to find our spot to sit, without Melise. Apparently, we were late and had to sit somewhere not so close to the sea. We sat in a circle and started playing games. I like the dooki-dooki the most. haha. Anyway, hard to explain it. I even competed with Gerry to see who could last saying the 'wu chi-chi' and went so loud. I think people walked past us would think we were mad.

Then we had a few photo-shots and Pearlyn looked "ahem" in them. But it was good for everyone to remember, don't you agree, Pearlyn?

We went to Maureen's house and stayed there. We watched movie and crapped till morning when we had breakfast at Macdonald's, in Bukit Batok.

The first word i used in 2008: firework, ( i guess).

Cousins' Outing

Title: Cousins' Outing

29Dec/Sat

The cousin outing ended with Dickson, Tania, me, Tammie, Kwan Boon, Aaron and Chloe turned up (in the order of seniority). haha. For me, it was an outing of our own with no adults' supervision. We had the freedom to do what we want. The next outing is somewhat already decided and it sounds an exciting idea too. I am thrilled for that day in Feb.

I got to know the number game because of Tammie, a game that requires player to shout the numbers starting from 1 in logical order. Once any player shouts a number at the same time as the other, the 2 will be out of the game.

Caught the movie, "Alvin and the Chipmunks". It was a cute movie. I need to goal shawping (go shopping). Sales = sails (Dickson came up with those terms). Pictures taken, fun taken, memories taken.
